Frank the Butcher

Up next we have the man, the myth, the legendary Frank the Butcher.  I have been a fan of his and the Weekly Drop show for a few years.  I’m not sure who contacted who first but Frank and i have chatted back and forth for a few years now and he is the real deal.  A true man about town that can talk the Ralph Lauren Polo talk one minute, then hit you off with the newest streetwear that just dropped.  Frank is for sure a hustler and specializes in making moves and helping give shine to people doing good things.  I finally got the chance to meet him and the Weekly Drop crew a few years ago and they were all cool and excited to see what the Manifest brand was cooking up.  Be on the lookout for the Butchers Block website that Frank will be launching very soon.  Lot’s of quality stuff to be found there so don’t miss it.  And be sure to check his blog on HighSnobiety.com for all things dope.  Now on with the show…

I’m Frank The Butcher and I’m an actual butcher at Santiago’s Market around my way.  Just kidding…  not good at bios.  I’m the brand manager for Concepts in Boston (Cambridge), contribute to Vapors and Sneaker Freaker magazines, and am the co-host of The WeeklyDrop. I handle my B.I. “By all Means Necessary”. Vaya con Dios.

1. What do you do and where do you do it?
I’m co-host of the street culture pod cast The Weekly Drop, the brand manager for the boutique Concepts in Boston, I write for Vapors and Sneaker Freaker magazines, blog on HighSnobiety.com, design and make music…. Just try to stay busy and valuable. I give you all of my “2″ so maybe you could “3″. I do this all from Boston “the city of champions”!

2. Name a defining moment in your career.
Wow, hard one. I’ve been blessed to be able to continually move forward in my career and meet and work with people that I grew up admiring. Hard to pinpoint the defining moment but it was probably when I decided to do what I do fulltime and jump right in.

3. What is your biggest inspiration and who/what inspires you today?
I think music is my ultimate inspiration and is the centerpiece of my creativity. From writing to designing or just moving around my world… I do it with BDP’s Criminal Minded playing in my head.  Hip-Hop influenced the people that influenced the people that are doing things now.  It’s like an education you couldn’t pay for. I am amazed at the insight I provide to companies or my peers on the strength of my knowledge of Hip-Hop, which is invaluable to them but second nature for me.

4. What have been your biggest struggles?
Hands down, trying to provide for my family, not just financially, while maintaining my career. There are only 24 hours in a day and I use a lot of them up on work.

5. Sum up your style in 3 words.
Confident, comfortable and classic.

6. What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
I did a serious bid in the sheet metal industry. I had my daughter young and I went straight to work. It sucked. Whenever I feel like complaining about what I’m doing today, I think back to that plantation I worked on.

7. Name 3 things you can’t live without?
My Mac, fresh fitted and a clean pair of Vasque boots.

8. What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?  And where?
Shiiiit… Any Roots show I’ve ever been too. They go hard then take an intermission, then come back and really get to work!!

9. Name your top 5 favorite hip hop albums of all time?
Hmmm— BDP – By All Means Necessary, Eric B and Rakim – Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em, A Tribe Called Quest – Midnight Marauders, Slick Rick – Great Adventures of Slick Rick, EPMD – Business as Usual.  No order… and it could change tomorrow.

10. Tell us what you’re working on next?
I’m always doing something but my main focus is growing the Concepts brand with our own apparel, events and collaborative projects.  Also… The Butcher’s Block is on the way, very soon!

11. Do you have any last words for anyone who wants to do what you do?
