Fatlip explains the process behind “Passin’ me by” – The song, and the video

QD3 Rewinds with Fatlip to get the background behind probably their greatest song ever, Passin’ me by. Fatlip shares some fantastic anecdotes and little-known facts about the track- like how Romye came up with the concept that Fatlip ironed out, how originally J-Swift planned to make two different songs out of what was eventually the main beat and the hook, and how The Pharcyde got their record deal from the strength of this one cut. That last part is no stretch- this is an all-time top ten greatest hip hop song, ever, as far as I’m concerned. I will forever worship these cats. We’ll never see another album like Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde. -Skylar Woodman

Back In The Day…

I had to post this pic i found over on Shawn Stussy’s blog, http://www.shawnstussy.com.  Yes that Shawn Stussy.  And yes he’s back with his own brand “S/Double” after a 10 year or so break living it up in Hawaii after selling Stussy.  You need to check it out and see what he’s turning out.  Nice clean and simple goods with that stussy vibe to it.  Grown folks wardrobe yet still with the young feel.  Anyway, he had this great pic of Rev. Run and Mike D hanging out kicking it in every sense of the word “old school”.  I’m guessing this pic was snapped in 87 or so?  Check out the classic clothes in that pic.  Run rocking the leather black on black adidas jacket, kangol bucket and trademark dookie chain with that holy grail gold shelltoe!  And of course Mike D sporting the Def Jam/ Beastie Boys black letterman’s jacket and high sitting ball cap.  I bet you money they were both wearing Lee jeans on top of all that and of course, classic adidas kicks.  So 80′s hip hop and so simple but all so classic, to this day.
