Jay Electronica’s homage to GURU – Jazzmatazz featuring Tone Treasure
Jay Electronica featuring Tone Treasure – Jazzmatazz
New Orleans’ greatest contribution to the rap game Jay Electronica riding a vintage Group Home track and showing a clear Bald Head Slick influence in tone and delivery- a short but incredible tribute joint to the finest Boston transplant to ever bless us on the mic, Gifted Unlimted Rhymes Universal. I like this track because it’s a Primo beat, a Gangstarr title, and unlike many tribute joints, Jay Elec has the skill and versatility to pull off a convincing replication of Guru’s style. You take all of that and put Martin Luther King’s most legendary call to arms in front of it, and you have a cut that deserves regular rotation. If you haven’t yet heard it, grab the track. Much respect to Jay Electronica & R.I.P. Guru. -Skylar Woodman
Mick Boogie – nVMe – Duckdown Records • Survival Kit Remixtape
Mick Boogie – nVMe – Duck Down Records • Survival Kit Remixtape
One of 2009′s more critically acclaimed albums was KRS-ONE and Boot Camp Clique general Buckshot‘s impressive duet entitled KRS ONE & Buckshot: Survival Skills.
Fast foward to 2010 and we get an 11 track abum from mixtape maven Mick Boogie with talented producer nVMe riding shotgun and providing almost every beat..and the ones he didn’t do are supplied courtesy of Mobb Deep’s Havoc and DJ 9th Wonder.
On the mic you can find Kidz n the Hall’s Naledge, Skyzoo, Torae, Rustee Juxx, Sha Stimuli, and Fashawn. Those are maybe half of the rappers guesting on this tribute to Survival Skills collaborators KRS-ONE and Black Moon’s Buckshot. “MCs act like they don’t know” gets turned into a posse cut for ’10 and nVMe gives a reworked “Buck ‘em down” beat to NYC’s twin rap duo Christian Rich and they don’t disappoint.
nVMe knows how to lace a supertight beat, and I think the Blastmaster and Buckshot Shorty have probably been bumping the tape alot lately as well. Get into it. -Skylar Woodman
