Statik Selektah & Lord Sear present New Jack City – 1990s New Jack Swing Mixtape

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1ofcfxao5eytimm

For a time, R&B was running parallel with Golden Era rap as The New Jack Swing genre was born and thriving off of dope, uptempo production and a solid formula of equal parts rap and rhythm vocals. I miss New Jack Swing to this day, like I miss the Golden Era sound and sensibilities. NYC’s venerable producers and Radio DeeJays Statik Selektah & Lord Sear have collaborated on a mixtape series and #3 is centered entirely on Early 1990s New Jack Swing. Pretty much all the top radio jams and classic cuts are included, and if you’re from the era, you’ll likely love to hear them again. Peep the joint and dust off the Cross Colours jacket. – Skylar Woodman

DJ Eclipse – Danny Boy’s St. Patrick’s day mix 2012

Onetime Non Phixion DJ Eclipse hooked up with the jolly green giant himself, House of Pain / La Coka Nostra’s Danny Boy to drop a mixtape for Americans who like to drink and pretend they understand traditional Irish culture- this is Danny Boy’s St. Patrick’s Day mix 2012. As you might guess there’s several House of Pain joints (if you’ve never heard it, the unreleased Muggs/Lethal Irish Pride is included and not to be missed) along with some picks from The Pogues, John Lennon, and U2. Download the tape and try not to overdo it come the 17th. – Skylar Woodman

If you ain’t up on Strictlycassette.com, you need to be.

Recently my partner Derek “D-Nice” Glass put me up on a fantastic website with a true appreciation for golden-era hip hop: strictlycassette.com. The content is almost a mirror of what we do here at Manifest, and as you might guess from the name and the EPMD-inspired logo, there’s retrospectives on that unbeatable 90s hip hop and today’s music that kids like us can appreciate- quality, new-millenial hip hop with traditional sounds and lyrics. There’s everything from behind the scenes looks at albums like The Pharcyde’s Labcabincalifornia to a collection of Golden Era J-Card (cassette art & liner notes) scans, to a Gallery of Ghettoblasters which I’m planning on contributing the Aiwa 440 to. SC’s just fundamental bookmark material. We’re going to be doing a collaboration with Mark & the crew pretty soon, so in the meantime I wanted to point y’all to his site- make Strictly Cassette your next stop. – Skylar Woodman

New Mixtape!

My man Pipomix has put together another great mixtape for your listening pleasure and the Manifest brand is happy to be a part of this one.  This time he has taken 4 of everyones favorite albums and mixed them together like only he can.  Here’s what he has to say about this mix:

“The concept behind this mix dates back a few years to when I was reading Brian Coleman’s Check the Technique book. In the linear notes of all our favorite classic hip hop albums, I remember being surprised to read how Dr. Dre’s production on Straight Outta Compton heavily influenced Q-Tip’s production on Low End Theory. In turn, Dre also explained that hearing Low End Theory forced him to one-up Q-Tip’s production on The Chronic. A few years later, I also remember reading an article in Wax Poetics about how heavily influenced Dr. Dre was by the production of The Bomb Squad, and vice versa. All of that got me to thinking that the It Takes a Nation…, The Chronic, and The Low End Theory albums were all game changers in terms of the hip hop production landscape. Then I started thinking about what recent album really served to change the production landscape, when I concluded that the album had to be none other than Dilla’s Donuts. Though all four albums have a very different sound, I was amazed how well the four album blended together.

As many of you know, the whole idea of the Kush series is a takeoff from Dre’s Chronic album. During the recording of The Chronic, “chronic” became a term in the studio that was synonymous with some “next level” ish. Borrowing from that train of thought, I created the Kush series for mixes that sound a little “different.” In the spirit of the “kush,” I concluded that mixing together four albums that altered the production paradigm would be an appropriate return to the Kush series. Originally, the mix was going to be titled It Takes the Chronic and Low End Donuts to Hold Us Back, but I decided that Mercury Kush was better. Hope you all enjoy the mix.”

Mick Boogie – nVMe – Duckdown Records • Survival Kit Remixtape

Mick Boogie – nVMe – Duck Down Records • Survival Kit Remixtape

One of 2009′s more critically acclaimed albums was KRS-ONE and Boot Camp Clique general Buckshot‘s impressive duet entitled KRS ONE & Buckshot: Survival Skills.

Fast foward to 2010 and we get an 11 track abum from mixtape maven Mick Boogie with talented producer nVMe riding shotgun and providing almost every beat..and the ones he didn’t do are supplied courtesy of Mobb Deep’s Havoc and DJ 9th Wonder.

On the mic you can find Kidz n the Hall’s Naledge, Skyzoo, Torae, Rustee Juxx, Sha Stimuli, and Fashawn. Those are maybe half of the rappers guesting on this tribute to Survival Skills collaborators KRS-ONE and Black Moon’s Buckshot. “MCs act like they don’t know” gets turned into a posse cut for ’10 and nVMe gives a reworked “Buck ‘em down” beat to NYC’s twin rap duo Christian Rich and they don’t disappoint.

nVMe knows how to lace a supertight beat, and I think the Blastmaster and Buckshot Shorty have probably been bumping the tape alot lately as well. Get into it. -Skylar Woodman

DJ OSK • The Lox vs. Dr. Dre – DELOX

DJ OSK • The Lox vs. Dr. Dre – DELOX blends mixtape

Whether you’re a Dr. Dre fan, and/or down with D-Block, I think you’ll like this excellent mixtape from DJ OSK entitled DELOX. This mixtape is 21 tracks deep featuring Dr. Dre & Co’s vocals over Lox production, as well as The Lox and the D-Block fam’s acapellas thrown over some of Dr. Dre’s best beats. It’s rare to find a blend tape that is this well executed; the vocals match the beats on every cut. I hope you enjoy this OSK mix.
