Whosampled.com’s fantastic resident DJ Chris Read is a Tribe Called Quest lifer like us (Low End & Midnight Marauders always get the press!) and as such he decided to mix up a fitting tribute to their groundbreaking debut LP from 1989- People’s Instinctive Travels on the Paths of Funk and Rhythm. – It’s our opinion here at Manifest that the greatest retrospective mix tapes try to drop in pivotal components like Interviews, B-sides, and of course, the sample sources. Being honcho over at Whosampled, CR is well-versed in digging, cutting, and splicing. The result is an hour and four minutes of a trip back to Queens when Q-Tip, Shaheed Ali Muhammad and Phife Dawg were in their late teens and early twenties and already changing hip hop forever.
This is a great joint to throw on to get inspired to create or just vibe to. Stream it now and pay homage to the three kids from Queens who never made a wack track in their life. – Skylar Woodman
